Why should you be interested in AI: The Somnium Files? Because it’s the latest game from Kotaro Uchikoshi, creator of the excellent Zero Escape trilogy. What’s he cooking up this time?
AI: The Somnium Files was announced last year, but this is the first we’ve heard of a release date. The good news is that it’s a simultaneous worldwide release….there will be no delay between Japan and the US or Europe; the localization process was part of the original development.
We’re most interested in the storyline, which was the best part of Zero Escape. Uchikoshi isn’t revealing everything, but he has provided this:
One rainy night in November, a woman’s body is found at an abandoned theme park, mounted on a merry-go-round horse. She had been stabbed repeatedly, and her left eye was gouged out.
Kaname Date of the Metropolitan Police Department arrives on the scene. He recognizes the woman. Suddenly, he hears a noise from inside the merry-go-round.
He breaks into the merry-go-round’s central column to find a young girl. And in her
hands, she grips a bloody ice pick…
AI: The Somnium Files is a detective game, mainly. Kaname “must investigate crime scenes as well as dreams,” and we’re assuming he will literally be going into people’s dreams, because this game’s trailer opens with a woman tied to a gurney being threatened with a buzzsaw operated by a polar bear.
The game will be released in both standard and deluxe editions. The deluxe will cost $89.99 and include these extras:
- A-set Acrylic Stand – Approx. 6 inches tall
- Outer Box – Original Artwork by character design Yusuke Kozaki
- THOUGHTS REMaiN BELOW Artbook – 30+ pages of sketches and concept art
- REVERIES IN THE RaiN Soundtrack
- A-set’s #1 Fan Stickers – 3 vinyl stickers
- AI: The Somnium Files for Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4
Experience a new tale of terror when AI: The Somnium Files launches for Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam July 25.
