Jedi padawan Ahsoka Tano has become the breakout star of the Star Wars Television Universe, appearing in almost every Lucasfilm TV series since The Clone Wars began in 2008. And if the website Slashfilm is correct, the Togruta could soon be adding The Mandalorian to her resume.

It’s not that surprising when you realize the connection: Dave Filoni, the one who co-created Ahsoka in the 2000s for the Clone Wars animated movie, currently serves as writer, producer and director on The Mandalorian. He also worked on Star Wars Rebels and was responsible for Ahsoka’s reappearance there as an older woman.

It’s this older, post-Jedi version that will presumably be appearing on The Mandalorian, but by who? Ashley Eckstein has voiced the character since her first appearance, but she doesn’t LOOK like Ahsoka, especially the middle-aged model. Slashfilm says Rosario Dawson has been cast, an actress who was already a fan of Ahsoka before The Mandalorian ever got off the ground.

If this story turns out to be true it will be Ahsoka’s first live-action appearance, something everybody originally assumed was going to happen last year when JJ Abrams, director of Rise of Skywalker, told a reporter they would “want to watch closely” during the film for a possible Tano cameo. Taking this at face value, I went to see the film and I watched closely, as instructed. I inspected every crowd scene. Not one face tattoo or headdress.

It turned out that Abrams was referring to a scene where Rey is getting the Force choked out of her by Palpatine and the voices of Jedi from all over the galaxy inspire her to rise up. Eckstein was one of those voices, meaning Ahsoka was TECHNICALLY in the film. But not in any recognizable form.

But maybe we WILL get our live-action Ahsoka at last, and maybe Dawson will be that person. We’ll just have to see when Season 2 of The Mandalorian resumes production (originally announced for October 2020, but who knows anymore).
