The Hollywood Reporter reported that actor Adam West has died from leukemia on Friday in his home in Los Angeles. He was 88.
West was best known to TV audiences as the Caped Crusader on Batman in 1966 along with Burt Ward in the role of Robin. The show aired for three seasons. He also played Batman in the 1966 film.
In addition to Batman, West also appeared on shows like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Perry Mason, The Love Boat, Laverne & Shirley, Fantasy Island, and as himself on The Big Bang Theory. His movie credits include The Outlaws is Coming, Hooper, Geronimo, and The Happy Hooker Goes Hollywood.
West continue to be involved with Batman after the series was cancelled. He voiced Batman for Filmation’s The New Adventures of Batman in 1977 and replaced original Batman voice Olan Soule on Superfriends: The Legendary Super Powers Show in 1984 and The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians in 1985. He played Simon Trent/The Gray Ghost, a tribute character to the 1966 Batman, on Batman: The Animated Series, voiced Mayor Grange on The Batman, and voiced Thomas Wayne and Proto-bot on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Last year, he reunited with Burt Ward and Julie Newmar in the animated film Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. He finished production on the sequel Batman Vs. Two-Face which also stars William Shatner as the special guest villain.
In addition, West has also done voices for shows like Rugrats, Animaniacs, The Fairly OddParents, SpongeBob Squarepants, Johnny Bravo, Shazam!, and also voiced a spoof of himself as the mayor of Quahog on Family Guy.
West is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
