Abe Vigoda

The Hollywood Reporter reports that actor Abe Vigoda died on Tuesday in his home in New Jersey. He was 94.

Vigoda was best known to TV audiences as Detective Sgt. Phil Fish on the 70s sitcom Barney Miller from 1975-1977, and starred in the show’s spin-off, titled Fish, from 1977-1978. His other TV credits include shows like Dark Shadows, Superboy, Tales from the Darkside, As The World Turns, Santa Barbara, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Vigoda also appeared in Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-Winning film The Godfather as Salvatore Tessio, whose character was famously sent to “sleep with the fishes.” His other film credits include Cannonball Run II, Look Who’s Talking, Prancer, Sugar Hill, and the All That based comedy, Good Burger.

Vigoda’s voice credits include a penguin from Boca in Farce of the Penguins, and the voice of mobster Salvatore Valestra in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
