Last year Disney+ celebrated the holiday season with the cast of Star Wars in a fantastical, non-canonical adventure. In 2021, they’re doing it again, but with a different holiday…hold your breath as we dive into the Dark Side this Halloween with Star Wars: Terrifying Tales!
How scary can Star Wars actually be, anyway? ..Wait a minute, we left a word out of the main title. The special is actually called LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales, so…….it’s probably not that scary.
The setup: the Minifig versions of Poe Dameron and BB-8 are flying around space when their X-Wing takes a hit. They’re forced to make an emergency landing on the volcanic planet of Mustafar, which is currently lorded over by Graballa the Hutt. The planet was formerly where Darth Vader himself slept, brushed his teeth and took evil poops, and Graballa plans to capitalize on this fact by turning his former castle home into a luxury hotel.
This is actually a framing device for three separate stories, which will be told to Poe and BB-8 while they wait for repairs to their ship. The yarns will be spun by Vanee, former servant to Vader, and relate to various artifacts lining the walls of Vader’s abode. The press release doesn’t detail what the stories are, only to say they’ll focus on “iconic villains” from Star Wars movies of the past.
Star Wars dabbling in the horror genre is rare, but it’s not unheard of. It’s most common in the medium of comics, where IDW has published the “Vader’s Castle” series once every October. However, said series is an offshoot of the Star Wars Adventures line, which is all-ages, so it too tends to lean on the spoopy side of the genre.
Not so much as Lego Star Wars, though. Terrifying Tales will become streamable on Disney+ starting October 1.
